Siete Leguas: Nomen est Omen Siete Leguas distillery was named after a horse that belonged to Pancho Villa, the famous Mexican revolutionary. His Siete Leguas was known for his endurance and speed, being able to travel seven leagues in a day. Don Ignacio Gonzales Vargas, who founded the distillery back in 1952 in the town of Atotonilco, Jalisco, chose a fitting name for a distillery that will later on travel (at least) 7 leagues of its own with its Agave beverages. Siete Leguas comprises of two distilleries, the original Fabrica en Centario and a newer Fabrica La Vencedora that was opened in 1984 to expand on operations. Both still work in a very traditional way, with literal mules pulling the stone twice a day in the museum-like original Fabrica. Yikes! (Don’t worry though, they get a good rest between the two pullings between 11AM and 3PM, and also before and after that.)
