This Batak Bamboo Medicine Canister from the island of Lombok is a storage vessel for various herbs, medicines and ritual potions. The complex Batak design etched on the surface of the bamboo is a calendar that marks significant days for the use and non-use of the tube's contents. The carved wooden top is etched with tribal markings. A beautiful piece of primitive functional art. Approximately 5.5" H x 3.5" in diameter.
