MARTIN HUXFORD The Lucie plaster chandelier is characterised by an elegant simple form, and a sensitivity to surface and texture. Martin’s graduated bowl shape, with the smaller foot beneath, is influenced by his admiration for iconic modernist studio potter Lucie Rie. The elegant, visual lightness of the chandelier is achieved using a welded steel frame, slowly built up and contoured with layers of applied plaster. The simple minimalism of Martin’s work is softened and transformed by the texture achieved with his hand sculpted plaster, lending the geometric outline a unique tactility and warmth.
