You know those summer parades where you are so sweaty you feel like the mallet will fly out of your hand at any minute? The wood texture and slightly bulbous handle helps save your grip at these moments when you really need it.  The weight of these mallets are well balanced between the handle and head. It doesn't feel too short or handle heavy. And they have enough heft to them to feel like you can really hit the drum hard. It's satisfying!  I can't stand straight handled, light, unbalanced mallets.  The heads of these mallets are fuzzy. The fuzz will eventually wear and become a little "bald" looking. I personally feel that the sound they bring out of your surdo is a little better at this point. The mallet has "aged" a little bit like good cheese. The attack is a little sharper and the hard head still maintains the perfect amount of cushio
