1943 Give Us Lumber For More PT’s Patrol Torpedo Boat WWII

The image features Patrol Torpedo Boat 34, known simply as PT 34, speeding away from an exploding Japanese warship presumably struck by one of PT 34’s torpedoes. PT 34 was an actual US Navy ship launched on 14 June 1941 and based in the Philippines. PT 34 had a short but eventful fighting life including numerous encounters with hostile Japanese forces culminating with the destruction of the ship on 9 April 1942. Other PT Boats had been intentionally destroyed to avoid capture by Japanese forces but PT 34 was the first to be destroyed by enemy fire during WWII. The artist’s name is signed in the upper left hand corner of the image but the signature is illegible so the creator of this great poster re
