This sign is printed one side only on cardboard and was designed to be installed as overhead advertising signage in trolley cars. Otis Shepard worked as Art Director for Philip K. Wrigley’s chewing gum company, the largest in the world, from the early 1930s to 1961. Together with his wife Dorothy, the Shepards produced signage, billboards, magazine advertising and even packaging for Wrigley’s chewing gum in their instantly recognizable Modernist style. Wrigley liked their work so much he used them as graphic designers for his Catalina Island casino and for his Chicago Cub baseball team where the Shepards did a complete redesign for the team in the 1930s that included everything from uniforms to programs to the Wrigley Field stadium
