John, Abraham, Joseph, and Isaac Bowman were officers in the Revolutionary War. In 1779, they led families to Kentucky and founded Bowman’s Station. Their descendant Abram S. Bowman bought Sunset Hills estate farm in 1929. After the repeal of Prohibition, he opened a distillery on the property in 1935. The current A. Smith Bowman Distillery, located 60 miles from the original, started distilling in 1991. The Sazerac Company, Inc. bought the distillery in 2003. A. Smith Bowman does not disclose their source or produce their own distillate. Bowman Brothers Small Batch is triple distilled and aged on-site in eight barrel batches for 6-7 years. This hand-crafted bourbon is a tribute to the Bowman brothers and features hints of vanilla and oak from the finest corn, rye, and malted barley.
