It was crafted by the Burnside Rifle Company based in Providence, Rhode Island. One of the defining characteristics of this model is the inclusion of a chamber guide screw located in the middle of the receiver's right side. Over 40,000 of these carbines were made and delivered. It features a percussion carbine caliber of 54 and comes with a blade front sight and a folding leaf rear sight. The receiver is imprinted with "BURNSIDE PATENT / MODEL OF 1864 #1423
