Hippolyte Reverdy, Sancerre 2023
Variety: Sauvignon Blanc The Reverdy family has been making wine in the village of Verdigny, a commune of Sancerre since the early 17th century. The generation of Hippolyte changed things, which saw an increase in production as the demands for Parisian drinkers were met. Kermit Lynch, the importer for this classic Sancerre maker says Reverdy has since become “the benchmark domaine of our day.” It is said of the family that they live truly like 'paysan', or peasants. They never leave to vacation or travel as the vines are of utmost importance to them; this shows in their wines again and again. You won’t find a more benchmark expression of Sancerre. The vines are 30 years old, expressing the clean minerality of what this wine brings to the table. The wine is aged for just 2-3 months on its lees before it’s released in the spring.
