Raveneau, Chablis 1er Cru 'Montee de Tonnerre' 2022
Variety: Chardonnay If you asked a Burghound, or any serious collector what Burgundy wines they’re after, Raveneau just might grace that list. The wines are almost impossible to find as they are the most celebrated domaine in Chablis, and certainly at the top of the world’s best producers. When the domaine was founded in 1948, Francois Raveneau, whose wife was of the Dauvissat family, spent much time acquiring some of the best parcels in Chablis. It was no small feat as today the domain is almost entirely composed of Grand Cru and Premier Cru holdings. During the 1940s, when much of Europe was recovering from the war and the pursuit to bring in money, the family’s style remained far superior to the popular conventional wines of that time. The family were one of just a couple to bring the style of the Cote d’Or to Chablis; barrel fermentation and longer lees aging. On top of all this, their secret is in their prized vines and the superb ageability of them, any of which should age for 8
