Variety: Pinot Noir & Muller-Thurgau Stefan Vetter is the Sylvaner God of Franken. His focus on this Germanic variety means that, in a sense, everything becomes Sylvaner. Not literally of course, but his wines and ciders are lean, crisp and transparent. These bottlings gleam with a sharp edge and show remarkable power while often sitting around 10% ABV. Grapes grown in primarily sandstone and limestone enable an austerity that paradoxically frees Vetter to play without boundaries. Steffan Vetter wines have become sought-after cult offerings with many wine lovers appreciating the stark eccentricity of these wines. Rotling is an old style of winemaking that originally meant pressing and fermenting red and white grapes together to produce a rose of sorts. But like many wines of that era, cheap and overly sweet versions flooded the market in the 1980’s and ’90’s ruining the reputation of this regional specialty. Stefan Vetter wants to try again.
