The Devil's Trill: Sonatas by Giuseppe Tartini
The Devil’s Trill was named "Chamber Disc of the Month" by BBC Music Magazine and "Classical CD of the Week" by the Sunday Times when it was released in 2008. The album has been re-issued as part of the ECHO series by Linn which gives listeners a second chance to enjoy the best of the label’s catalogue. This recording presents programmatic sonatas by Italian composer Giuseppe Tartini. The most famous of these is quite possibly the Devil’s Trill Sonata, after which the album is named. A sonata by Frencesco Maria Veracini, a fellow violinist and composer, is also included. Veracini’s virtuosic playing was a major influence on a young Tartini. The Palladian Ensemble are winners of the prestigious Diapason d’Or Award on five different occasions. ----- Reviews: This is clever programming, for while Tartini's music is undoubtedly difficult, the jittery virtuosity of the Veracini throws into relief its melodic grace and refinement. Rodolfo Richter is a perfect violinist
