Varietal: Riesling Region: Pfalz Appellation: Pfalz Vineyard: Reiterpfad Soil Type: Top soil: sandy to sandy loam with detritus, sandstone and new red sandstone, in between zones of marl lime and loess & loam Fermentation & Élevage: Spontaneous fermentation in 500L barrels, left on the gross lees for 12 months Reiterpfad: The name derives from ancient Romans who with their legions and cavalry passed through this area (Reiter = rider; Pfad = path). Reiterpfad is located at the foot of the Haardt in Ruppertsberg. With sandstone and some limestone in the soil, it is one of von Winning’s best premier crus. Dense and long, grilled peach, smoky spiciness: a noble Riesling. Completely fermented in oak and aged on the lees for one year.
