Monoecious cucumber plants have both male and female flowers present on the same plant. Female flowers are the ones that will produce fruits. Both hybrid and open-pollinated cucumber plants can be monoecious. Monoecious cucumber varieties tend to have a longer harvest window. Cucumbers perform best when direct-seeded. They do not perform well when transplanted. They may be direct-seeded by hand or with a walk-behind seeder.
