Cleistocactus baumannii is the type species of the genus Cleistocactus which contains between 54 and 69 species and belongs to the family of the Cactaceae (Cactus Family). Cleistocactus baumannii was described and the name validly published by Charles Lemaire in 1861. Cleistocactus baumannii produces solitary strong orange tubular flowers. The perennials carry red berries. Cleistocactus baumannii is native to Northeast Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. The plants are protected in some areas .
