What draws you into a scene? Is it the weather? The history? The way something stands strong against the odds? For me, it’s a little bit of everything. I had this feeling when I photographed Mackinac's guardian, the old Round Island Light, standing strong against stormy skies. Perhaps this lighthouse, on its tiny, lone piece of land, was defying the storm. It protects something far bigger than the waters of the Straits of Mackinac. The weather wasn’t good that day, the sky was turning gray, full of ominous clouds. Yet there it was, the Round Island Light, across the water. Red, bold, and unshaken by the storm that was gathering behind it. As my heart was racing with excitement, I grabbed my camera, knowing I’ll capture something special. With each click of the shutter the lighthouse became not just a structure, but a symbol of endurance. The winds howled and the water around the island rippled in anticipation of the coming storm, but the lighthouse stood strong. For over a century, it
