This listing is for the possibly unique, circa 1820 French water jousting hand colored print signed by the printer pictured above.About this work:This image depicts two French gentleman water jousting at the Port D’Orsay in France. The French sport of water jousting has been practiced for centuries and continues to be played today. I was unable to find any earlier prints depicting this sport.The print has been hand signed in ink by one of the original printers. The printers of this image were “Lith. Rosenfeld & Bry, Rue St. Antoine 129”. Bry has inscribed, signed, and dated the piece in the lower right hand corner:“jé certifie que le tirage sora(?) semblable au présent modéle.BryParis, 13 aout (August) 1822”His inscription roughly translates to: “I certify that the future printings will be similar to the present model”This inscription implies that this specific piece is likely an original proof made by the printers.
