This listing is for the circa 1900 Hippolyte Camille Delpy Barbizon Impressionist River Landscape pictured above. About this work: A beautiful landscape entitled “The Riverside” by Hippolyte Camille Delpy (French, 1842-1910). This exceptional oil on panel by Delpy depicts one of his acclaimed river subjects. On the bank to the right, a pair of figures in red and black sit and rest. Behind them, bushy foliage rises out of the rich soil and a single poplar tree reaches towards the sky. The river, filled with lily pads, extends beyond the image on the left. A band of green hills forms the remainder of the background. Above, a warm sky with hues of blue and yellow rounds out the composition. The work is signed “H. C. Delpy” in the lower right. The reverse of the panel is additionally incised with the artist’s initials. Also on the reverse is the original label from the painting’s sale in 1905 at the American Art Association.
