He sits at an angle with a pensive gaze that bypasses the viewer. He wears a navy blue coat over an elaborately embroidered red waistcoat with contrasting white cravat.While unsigned, the works shows the quality of a confident and talented artist working in the 3rd to 4th quarters of the 18th century. Particularly fine brushwork in the sitter’s forehead, nose, and cheeks impart glimmers of light.
