About this work:An exceptionally rare and large painting by renowned American fashion designer and 80s icon Stephen Sprouse (1953-2004).This excellent composition by Sprouse includes interplaying vertical registers of grey and white separated by bold black outlines. Sprouse was a major figure in the NYC art and fashion scene in the 1980s, befriending and working with Andy Warhol and Keith Haring among others. This particular work, composed of shades of metallic silver, white, and black, relates closely to Sprouse’s designs from the mid 1980s. Namely, his Fall 1984 collaboration with NASA (Sprouse was obsessed with space) featured similar shades of shimmering silver, white, and black.
