
Le Faucon Art I
There’s no better way to bring life to an empty wall than our La Faucon Art I. We reimagined this piece from an antique naturalist illustration of falcon subspecies, which caught our eye as we leafed through stacks of delicate, aged pages at a Paris flea market. Upon closer inspection, we were delighted to find that this particular page dated all the way back to the late 1700s, when it appeared as a highly-detailed, hand-colored plate in an ornithological encyclopedia. Out of the several birds of prey depicted, we were especially drawn to this striking gyrfalcon — so, once back in Chicago, we got right to work on our reinterpretation, upping his scale and removing surrounding text and illustrations to create a giclée print with a fresh, updated feel. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the final product, which holds its own in modern and traditional spaces alike while also honoring the old-school beauty of that original etching.
