Big Bend Milky Way Photography My first stop on this “14 parks in 14 days” road trip took me to the very edge of the United States. Big Bend National Park is one of the largest, most remote, and least visited parks in the country. It took me a couple days to get there from Chicago and added quite a bit of drive time to my trek. But I knew that there’d never be a convenient way to visit this place filled with rugged desert landscape, prickly cacti, and unique wildlife. Getting a Big Bend photo was as close to a “must do” as it could be. I spent most of my day scouting in and around the Chisos Mountains and Santa Elena canyon. When I was there, the Rio Grande was a wadable river. Signs warned visitors not to cross over into Mexico, but there wasn’t anything to stop you if you really wanted to.
