Kingman, Arizona III – This piece has sweetness to it, with these shrubs closeby that felt like perfect little circles to me. It also has little more texture and an idea of distance, with the layers of the mountains, dark trees sitting just beyond the grasses. The Arizona landscape in Kingman on Route 66, with its pink mountains, dry grasses and dotty shrubs felt like joy and calm to me. These 2021 landscape drawings are drawn later as I remember the impressions of the landscape during a 2020 road trip with my husband. We drove across country when we moved from California to New England. This was during the beginning COVID, as so many of us were left unable to afford city living and opted to move to the country or closer to family.
