Ruby Pomegranate Slice Brooch

I create my copper finishes using a Japanese technique called "Hiirodo" where I heat the finished copper shape until brightly glowing, then plunge it into boiling water to achieve an even plum red appearance. I backed this piece with layers of mica for strength, and finished it with 23k gold leaf. Nestled in the opening are seven freshwater pearls and four 3mm facetted rubies. 1 1/2" tall x 1 7/8" wide.
