Parvus Ager Red "Cesanese Lazio IGT" 2023, Lazio

While the vineyards of Lazio are planted to nearly 70% white grapes, the varietal Cesanese is perhaps the varietal that would be considered a signature grape of the region.  This example is an uncomplicated, straightforward expression that you might expect as a house wine in a Roman bistro.   In the glass, the wine is a dark ruby color with bright edges, showing purity and youth.  Aromatics of ripe wild berries with a peppery note are a surprise to the uninitiated.  On the palate, the wine is medium bodied and smooth, with almost imperceptible tannins.  The fruit is ripe, but not overripe, which adds a bit of richness.  There is no oak, just the essence of the Cesanese varietal.  This is a nice summer wine that you could chill slightly just to be sure that it stayed at a perfect drinking temperature.  At 22/Bottle, it's easy to give this wine a try, even if it's only to satisfy your curiosity.
