Vignerons Réunis Bourgogne Chardonnay Cuveé Reserve 2022
This small growers' cooperative near Montagny in the Côte Chalonnaise of southern Burgundy has turned out to be one of the more recent pleasant surprises I have found from Burgundy. This wine comes from a cooperative of thirty vignerons often that have begun to produce wines that compete with some of the big names in Burgundy with their exemplary offerings. I immediately understood the hype when I tasted the cooperative's superb Bourgogne Blanc “Cuvée Réserve,” which comes from Chardonnay vineyards on the plains below the village of Montagny. It is medium bodied and well balanced with a nice concentration of flavor. Neutral barrels are used to round the edges of this wine. But, there isn't a hint of oak to mask the delicate and lovely expression of Chardonnay fruit in it's purest form.
