DETAILS: 13” x 16” Acrylic on Canvas Original Artwork  unframed 2009 Description: This is a portrait of an old man that everyone called “Oupa Japie” (Grandpa Japie), this photo was taken by a friend that went to visit him while he was looking after his grandchildren after both their parents had died. He was friendly and jovial despite his dire circumstances and that is what I tried to capture in this painting. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Samuel Pretorius My aim is to create art that evokes memories of places and people. A fleeting image that you long to see again, a landscape that you will never forget, or a place you yearn to visit, captured in a few brush strokes to hold on to that memory forever. I have worked in many different mediums in the past, but now I focus on Acrylic because I like applying fresh brush strokes without waiting.
