WAKING DREAM

THE STORY As children, we are encouraged to dream uninhibitedly. And then, slowly at first and with increasing force over time, our stories turn into tales of rationality. We train ourselves to become more and more adept at the art of tunnel vision, focusing on reaching a progression of milestones. Amid the chase, who has time to deviate, to dream? As the years fly by, we progressively lose our panoramic vision, our innate sense of wonder. Now, I don’t profess to know my way out of this societal dilemma for good, but I do know this: The sound and sight of the sea and a calm mind may just bring back into focus the true gestalt of our dreams. Here is to those who successfully marry wonder and rationality, for they, I believe, have found the path to happiness.
