A postmodern abstract expressionist mixed-media oil painting on canvas by Bruce McColl. Signed and dated 8-89 on verso. An energetic painting with expressive colored brushstrokes. Written on the painting "hearts throttled violets hands" along with an excerpt from a poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley. There are elements of the graffiti street art movements in this composition with inspirations pulled from expressionist artists such as Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Bruce McColl (1966- ) attended Cranbrook School and received his BA from Brown University in 1988. In 1994, Bruce was awarded an MFA in painting from Wayne State University where he studied with noted figurative painter Robert Wilbert. Following his graduate studies, Bruce was an instructor of fine art at Tabor Academy, MA, and an instructor of art and art history at Bristol Community College
