Areca macrocalyx ‘Red’ Palm Tree   The Areca macrocalyx is found in and around New Guinea including the Maluku and Solomon Island rainforests in the Melanesia region.    Often referred to as a ‘dwarf’ the Areca macrocalyx palm often grows up to 12 feet but has been known to also reach heights of 20 or higher in cultivation. It's a fast-growing, solitary palm with a large crown of glossy, deep-green, broad pinnate leaves that emerge from a spectacular red crown shaft and handsome bamboo-like ringed trunk. The mature seeds are also an ornamental red. Areca macrocalyx red is a tropical palm that tolerates many different types of soils and thrives in partial or filtered sunlight but does not tolerate temperatures approaching freezing.
