The story: This is what I strive for when painting – to be in flow. Yet as often as I seek it, it doesn’t always arrive. When it does, I hardly have to think about what I’m doing, I just be and hours pass as if seconds; it’s when my best work gets unlocked. As powerful as creative flow is, you can’t count on it. You can set up the conditions for inspiration, but when they don’t strike, it doesn’t mean you quit working. You keep at it – just at your usual level, not at your peak. And that’s OK – because most work occurs outside of flow, flow is just a multiplier when it occurs.
