In the book, the author instructed the reader on how to properly use eggshells for planting, a delicate but easy way to begin an herb garden. In the margins of the book, the author made notes about birds donating their hatched eggs to him after they noticed his other eggshell planters. This relationship between the author and the birds seems to have continued for the remainder of his lifetime — a fascinating study of the bird personality.
