Carnelian is a reddish-brown and orange variety of chalcedony, which is also a type of microcrystalline quartz. Historically, this mineral has been prized for its beautiful color as evidenced by ancient beads that date back to the Neolithic Age. In addition, this mineral was highly valued during the height of the Roman and Greek empires. This particular crushed carnelian is from Botswana and has a beautiful and consistent orange color. Our medium material is considered to be sand sized (very coarse sand to fine sand), ranging between 2 millimeters to 0.25 millimeters.
