Kyanite is a blue, fibrous metamorphic mineral that forms in distinctive thin blades. This mineral only forms under high pressure within the Earth's crust, which can tell you A LOT about the tectonic history of an area. Because kyanite crystallizes as thin blades, it also crushes up into progressively smaller, elongate crystals during the crushing process. Our medium material is considered to be sand sized (very coarse sand to fine sand), with the width of the kyanite blades, ranging between 2 millimeters to 0.25 millimeters. The average length of the kyanite blades range between 0.1 centimeters to 1 centimeter. Please see the corresponding sediment size chart.  Mineral Properties Mohs’s Hardness: 4.5 - 5 Specific Gravity (g/cm3): 3.5 - 3.7 Luster: Vitreous, Pearly Color: Light Blue Origin: Brazil This product is not man-made, mixed with resin, dyed, or stabilized.
