Nova is the new War Eagle and is known as War Eagle VII. All official Auburn eagles have been golden eagles. Spirit, the bird that shares pregame duties with Nova, is the university's first bald eagle. Nova made its debut flight as War Eagle VII during the Georgia game in 2006. Born in captivity in the Montgomery Zoo in 1999, Nova came to Auburn when it was six months old. Spirit's first game flight was in 2001. It was discovered as a fledgling in Florida in 1995, unable to hunt for food because of a deformed beak. Nova is artist Stephen Malkoff's latest collegiate icon in a series of renderings that has drawn nationwide acclaim.
