Acid Violet 17

  Acid Yellow 7 and Acid Violet 17 stains are some of the newer and more effective fluorescent stains used to enhance bloody footwear and fingerprint impressions on non-porous surfaces. Staining using Acid Yellow 7 reveals a yellowish-colored print which fluoresces under blue-green light (400-490 nm). With Acid Violet 17, traces of blood and other protein-based fluids will be revealed in a purple colored visible print which fluoresces red under green ALS illumination. When prints developed with Acid Yellow 7 or Acid Violet 17 are lifted with a white gelatin lifter, the impression will often reveal enhanced fluorescence.
