The upper surface of the wings is predominantly black with iridescent bands of color that appear emerald, green when viewed directly and shift to blue from the side. The tails of the hindwings are spatula-shaped and also exhibit this striking iridescence, appearing turquoise blue from the front and purplish-blue from the side. The body is black and covered with iridescent green scales.
