The Transition 19.5x15in
The Mayan Prince with the green jade mask, the jaguar skin coat on, holding a pot with the seed nahual design, where a maize plant grows with the 4 colors of corn, It’s a representation of my mayan culture. And in my thoughts, my mom, who is holding my cousin who was born 3 months before my departure, and of course everything about my town that is known as Tz’kin Jaay’ or Birds House. It’s a crater filled up with water and surrounded by 3 volcanoes. Behind the jade mask there is a volcano eruption, it represents the dimension where I am coming from, the character is transitioning from the volcanos land to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Downtown Minneapolis is colored with the flag colors, below it’s the Mississippi river crossing the state, and below that, are the 10,000 lakes in the rainbow. It’s the first watercolor I have painted in the United States in 2015.
