Night Spirit Frog (Leptopelis spiritusnoctis)

Night spirit frogs (Leptopelis spiritusnoctis) are a unique species of tree frog with a widespread native range throughout West Africa from Guinea to Nigeria including the Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Togo, Benin, and Ghana. These are smaller frogs, usually not exceeding 2”, with the females usually being slightly larger than the males. This species is well known throughout their native range for their large, iconic eyes and “whispering” call that can be heard throughout the forest on rainy nights. Night spirit frogs inhabit forested areas and are usually found near streams and other moist areas. Night spirit frogs aren’t very commonly kept in the states but seem to be relatively easy to care for. They are nocturnal insectivores and should be offered appropriately-sized insects regularly.
