SHAPELY ORANGE BITOSSI VASE DESIGNED BY ALDO LONDI FOR RAYMOR

A very substantial 60s orange-glazed vase with a floral motif designed by Aldo Londi and produced at Bitossi Ceramiche for Raymor.  The feminine shape is accented with unglazed bands at the neck, 'hips,' and foot giving the vase a rather rustic feel.  There is a flat chip measuring roughly one-half inch at the base that blends in so well that we almost failed to notice it (see photos).  It does not detract ALDO LONDI (1911-2003) was one of Italy's most noted master ceramicists who spent most of his long and successful career creating exceptional works of great art and craft for the Italian ceramics manufactory Bitossi Ceramiche. Londi’s hometown just outside of Florence, Montelupo Fiorentino, has been an important center for pottery production since the Renaissance. In 1922, at the age of eleven, Londi started working for Fratelli Fanciullacci, the region’s premier ceramics workshop at the time.
