The Planner group of modular furniture is considered a classic of modern design and remained in production from the late 1940s until it was discontinued in 1964. PAUL McCOBB was one of the leading contemporary furniture designers in America in the 1950's and 60's. Despite a lack of formal training, he created an impressive range of multi-functional furniture, accessories, and textiles. He also took on many notable interior design projects. McCobb opened his own studio in 1945 and rose to prominence a few years later as a design and decorating consultant for Martin Feinman’s Modernage Furniture in New York City. It was there he met his future business partner, B.G. Mesberg. McCobb capitalized on the post-war demands of young and growing families for simple, affordable, and stylish furniture.
