Cobalt has become a signature color of Chihuly, showing up in countless iterations throughout the 90s and 2000s, most notably in his 1994 Cobalt Blue Basket with Cadmium Red Lip Wrap Portland Press Edition Series. This iteration is similar to his Portland Press version, but this piece is punctuated with black thread details instead of the contrasting lip wrap. The thread details pay homage to the earlier part of Chihuly's career when thread wraps were often used. Chihuly's modern-era works are often recognized for their multitude of colors, but this almost single-colored cobalt work is a deliberately pared-back appro
