His glass practice is a departure from traditional symmetry and perfectly formed vessels. Instead, his sculptures embrace asymmetry and irregular shapes. Chihuly began his Persian series in 1986 as an experiment to search for new forms. Chihuly uses ribbed optic molds and molten glass ringed with a linear wrap to create his characteristic repetitive patterns of the series.
