Deep grey green leaves and long fuzzy spikes of purple and white flowers late in the summer, throughout fall and even into winter in protected locations. Great for a fresh cut flower, and also for drying, and one of the best hummingbird plants as well as the easiest to grow.   Mexican bush sage is large growing, to 5 feet tall and 5 feet wide. To keep growth down with hold watering, watering only once every 2 weeks. Deadhead blooms to extend the bloom time. If growing season is especially long prune about 50% in mid summer to maintain a smaller plant. At the end of winter, prune the plant to the ground. I know this can be difficult to do, if there are still a few flowers blooming on it, but if you don't renew the growth you will end up with a 5 foot tall plant with no foliage on the bottom 4 feet, then 1 foot of growth and a short little bloom at the top. Not very attractive compared to what a plant cut to the ground looks like!
