It is easy to see it's close relation to your typical Japanese maple. During late spring this ornamental tree turns to bright green before putting on a pink-red summer new flush of growth. During the fall Acer oliverianum ssp. fomosanum turns to bright oranges that are infused with gold. While this mid-sized tree provides great color in the landscape, it is also is extremely heat tolerant, making it very useful in the southern landscape.
