Acer sieboldianum 'Seki no kegon' Weeping Cold Tolerant Japanese Maple Zones 4-9   As a recent introduction from the Fukushima Prefecture, this cultivar wasn't even available commercially in Japan until 2008. Here at MrMaple.com, just a few years later, it is now available here in America! In the 2010 Summer edition of the Maple Society newsletter, this cultivar was featured as an interesting new specimen with photos and measurements of the original tree in Fukushima. It was discovered in 1970 as a weeping sieboldianum seedling. Over 30 years old, the original tree stood only 10 ft tall.The name 'Seki' comes from the family name of Mr. Kazou Seki, who originally found this phenomenal tree. 'Kegon' comes from the famous cascading waterfall 'Kegon-no-taki'.'Seki-no-kegon' is truly beautiful. In Japanese maples, 99% of all weeping cultivars have deeply divided lace-leaves.
