Dragon's Breath Opal Silver Frame Setting Pendant Necklace
I set a vintage dragons' breath opal inside a silver alloy bezel setting. This comes with a 24 inch silver plated rope chain. The flashes inside the opal make it look like dragon's breath. The opal is 12mm in diameter and the setting is 26mm. Dragon's breath opal is a glass stone that was first made in Bohemia in the early 1900's. It was made to resemble a Mexican fire opal and was often called by that name. Dragon's breath opals were made by adding metals to the molten glass to create the opal flash effect. The overall color of the glass is reddish orange to coral rose, with flashes of blue and purple inside the glass, depending on the angle it is viewed from. This blue and purple breath of fire is what gives the stone its name. Czech glass, also known as Bohemian glass, has been made since Roman times. It is one of the most popular types of glass produced. These were made in Czechoslovakia from the 1930s on. Each one was handmade by glass artists in the Bohemian style. Stones listed
