Sadly, the Red-crowned Parrot may soon be extinct. Their numbers have slid drastically since the 1970's, with population along the Rio Grande delta disappearing due to clear-cutting in their primary habitat in Tamaulipas, Mexico. As frugivores that rely on the ripe tree fruit not commonly eaten by or useful to humans, their decimated local habitats offer little alternative food.
