In this market scene, the Dominican artist, José Morillo, was inspired by the neighborhood market with its people, the traditional street vendors, and the merchant women. "Color is very important in my work, and fortunately, it is present in each one of those characters I usually see on a daily basis", says Dominican painter José Morillo.  Jose Morillo was born in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic in 1975, and now lives in Constanza. He is currently considered the most prominent naive painter in Dominican art and is represented by Myriam Nader Art Gallery in New York.
