Coreopsis tinctoria Commonly known as Plains Coreopsis, Garden Coreopsis, Golden Tickseed, and Calliopsis. An annual coreopsis that typically grows in rocky glades, sandy ground, and along roadside and railroad tracks. Daisy-like flowers with yellow rays and reddish brown center disks bloom late Spring into Fall. The flowers attract butterflies and the seeds attract birds. Easily grown in dry to medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun. Tolerates light shade. Performs well in poor sandy or rocky soils. Tolerant of heat, humidity and some drought. Prompt deadheading of spent flowers may encourage additional bloom and prevents any unwanted self-seeding. Freely self seeds in optimum conditions.
